Abstract
In 2001 and 2003 the Ertebølle site Grube-RoÂsenÂfelde LA 83 in Eastern Holstein was excavated by Sönke Hartz, Archaeological Museum, Schleswig. This article presents the results of the investigation of the plana and sections as well as the analyses of tools made of flint, wood and bone. Moreover the botanical (macro remains, pollen) and zooarchaeological finds (bones of mammals, fish and birds) are described.
The so far observed settlement structure of coastal sites from the Ertebølle Culture consisting of habitation area and dumping zone does not exist at the site of Grube-Rosenfelde LA 83. A regular dumping zone comprising worked tools, large numbers of animal bones, wooden artefacts and driftwood is missing. The proof of specialized eel fishing and the small range of mammal bones differ from the diversity of hunting prey on similar coastal sites thus indicating a different use of the site. On the basis of the archaeological material the investigations of Rosenfelde LA 83 demonstrate the earliest aceramic coastal settlement of the Ertebølle Culture in SchlesÂwig-Holstein as well as a site being used for specialised activities.
