Summary
2010 and 2011 the Late Neolithc site Quern- Neukirchen LA   28 (Tegelbarg), distr. SchlesÂwig-Flensburg, was investigated by a joint excavation of both the Archaeological State Museum, Schleswig, and the Institute of Pre- and Protohistoric Archaeology, Kiel University, completing earlier excavations of the 1970s.
This site is the first documented shell midden of the Late Neolithic. Beside fireplaces and an inhumation grave areas of working activities and typical waste disposal could be proved. Based on typo-chronological as well as radiometric analyses the site dates from c. 2200–1950  BC, i. e. Late Neolithic 1. Obviously during this time span the site had been visited seasonally only. At the transition to the Bronze Age radiometric datings around 1750  BC point to a further use of the site.
